About The Author

Lawrence Joustra began his professional journey after graduating from West Point in 1977, dedicating over 20 years to the U.S. Army’s Special Forces community. He played a pivotal role in establishing the 1st and 3rd Special Forces Groups, and served in the 5th and 7th Groups, deploying worldwide on missions of strategic importance. With extensive experience in Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America, he became a trusted expert in training, equipping, and leading foreign forces, as well as advising presidents and foreign ministers on military and security affairs.

Beyond his military career, Lawrence contributed his expertise as a consultant in the U.S. Department of State and later in the Department of Homeland Security. His work helped shape U.S. foreign and security policy in regions such as Colombia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Haiti, Liberia, and Sudan. He is recognized for his ability to develop contingency plans, resolve interagency challenges, and guide strategy at the highest levels of government.

A decorated officer, Lawrence has received numerous awards, including the Bronze Star, multiple Meritorious Service Medals, and the Humanitarian Service Medal. He is Ranger- and Special Forces-qualified, a Master Parachutist, and a HALO parachutist.

Today, Lawrence has turned to writing, bringing the same precision and insight he applied in uniform to his work as an author. His autobiography reflects on the challenges and sacrifices of a life lived under the weight of secrecy, while inspiring readers to pursue their dreams with resilience and courage.
